Warriors vs. Wizards: Curry Shines With 51-Point Game, Coach Kerr Left Speechless

It was the Stephen Curry show as the Golden State Warriors recorded their fourth win of the 2018-19 season with a dominating 144-122 victory over the Washington Wizards at the Oracle Arena on Wednesday night.
The Warriors point guard was in a league of his own as he hit 51 points in three quarters to record his sixth career 50+ point’s game. Curry hit 11 three-pointers as the team dominated the Wizards with the final one coming late in the third quarter from 32 feet back.
Curry hit 18 straight points in the first quarter, which included making his first five from beyond the arc. His blistering start to the game elicited chants of “MVP, MVP!” from the crowd which continued well into the second quarter. He ended the first half with 31 points – it was his ninth career 30-point half, but his 20 in the third quarter fell three short of matching his career best of 54 points in a game, which he recorded against the New York Knicks in 2013.

Curry did not play the fourth quarter, which did not give him a chance to beat his career best. Steve Kerr revealed after the game that he did not consider putting his main point guard back on as it was his planned rest time. He was also at a loss for words to describe the two-time MVP’s performance on the night.
“I did not consider putting him back in. That was his normal rest time and the game was in hand and that’s not what we do,” Kerr said during his post-game press conference. “I don’t even know how to describe what I saw tonight, it was amazing — video game stuff.”
The Warriors guard revealed it was after his third straight three-pointer in the first quarter when he knew that he was in rhythm to have a big game. He also praised his teammates and believes it is their togetherness to want each other to do well that also helps them thrive.
“Probably the third three in the first quarter, everything felt in good rhythm, I was getting good looks and you don’t have to force anything to find them and you repeat that same motion,” Curry said. “The crowd gets into it and my teammates are encouraging me.”
Curry also praised Kevin Durant, who contributed with 30 points, seven assists and eight rebounds and he along with Klay Thompson — 19 points — and Curry contributed 100 points. The last trio to score 100 points in a game was Kobe Bryant (61), Paul Gasol (31) and Trevor Ariza (13) in 2009.
“What KD did tonight in terms of his efficiency was crazy and in the back end to Klay’s finding his shots. That’s the beauty of our team, we have fun doing what we do everybody loves when everybody else is successful and we just love playing basketball,” Curry added.
