A flat-out awkward moment ensued when Chelsea Handler and Piers Morgan sat down on her E! Network show, “Chelsea Lately.” Both professionals interview people for a living, but when Handler sat down on Wednesday to talk to the British journalist, it was unclear whether the two were just fooling around.

The two began a playful banter, with the E! Network star delivering the first blow before Morgan had even sat down.

"What are you looking at?" she challenged the Brit.

Blatantly trying to be funny, he teased back:

"Well, you've either had plastic surgery or a makeover, because you look really hot today."

This prompted the 37-year-old comedienne to reply:

"Oh, you're so annoying. You're so obnoxious -- you wonder why everybody hates you! I specifically covered up so you couldn't look at me and undress me with your molester eyes."

Morgan, 47, made sure to continue the back-and-forth. Handler has a reputation for being a heavy drinker, and he made sure to use it against her.

"Normally when I come on the show," he quipped, "you're really hung over in a very unprofessional way."

The real purpose of Morgan appearing on the show was to promote his CNN primetime show, and though Handler tried to steer the conversation back to a professional manner, the two couldn’t resist taking shots at each other.

"You interviewed me last year on my anniversary, which just proved one thing, really," the CNN host began to say, but Handler cut him off.

"Let me guess -- that you're a better interviewer than I am," she interrupted.

After a brief chuckle from Morgan, she continued:

"Well, I'm not pretending to be a great interviewer. I'm not even pretending to be good at my job."

"Both things are clearly apparent today," Morgan joked. "But I can help you."

"You can suck my a--," Handler fired back. "I mean, really."
