Was Princess Margaret’s Royal Wedding More Glamorous Than Queen Elizabeth’s? [SEE PHOTOS]

Queen Elizabeth II's and Princess Margaret’s royal weddings were both extravagant, but one might be more glamorous than the other.

Express shared various photos taken from Princess Margaret and Anthony Armstrong-Jones’ royal wedding on May 6, 1960, at Westminster Abbey. According to Andrea Tonks, Princess Margaret had the “most glamorous royal wedding.”

Princess Margaret was escorted by her brother-in-law Prince Philip when she walked down the aisle. Her bridesmaids included Princess Anne, who was only 9 years old at the time.

Princess Margaret and Armstrong-Jones were presented to the congregation as husband and wife for the first times and were pictured holding hands as they walked down the aisle with their bridal party. They embarked on a royal procession to Buckingham Palace as well-wishers lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the newlyweds. The couple later appeared on the balcony with the royal family.

Both Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding were attended by about 2,000 guests. Their wedding gowns were also designed by the same designer Norman Hartnell. Both of their wedding rings were also made from the same nugget of Welsh gold from Clogau St. David’s mine.

However, between the two, Queen Elizabeth II’s wedding cake was more enormous. Her Majesty’s four-tiered royal wedding cake stood 9 feet tall and weighed around 500 pounds and produced 2,000 slices. It was a fruit cake that contained 80 oranges and lemons, 660 eggs and over three gallons of Navy Run.

On the other hand, Princess Margaret’s cake stood 5 feet tall with three tiers separated with simple column stands. The 150-pound cake was decorated by the princess’ coat of arm and an English rose. It was made by J. Lyons and Company Ltd. at its Cadby Hall bakery in Hammersmith, London.

Queen Elizabeth II stunned at Princess Margaret’s big day with her turquoise blue gown that was also designed by Hartnell. A throwback photo of the said outfit was shared on Instagram recently. In the snap, the Queen looks very glamorous in every inch.

The dress was designed using a simple turquoise blue silk taffeta and silk tulle with guipure lace on the top and down the back. It was adorned by lace and came with a matching bolero jacket.
