WATCH: Cambodia Village Kids Catch Big Snakes With Bare Hands

A video uploaded on YouTube channel Cambodia Daily Life shows two young kids, armed with shovels, marching onto the fields and catching huge snakes with their bare hands. The 11-minute video uploaded July 9 has gone viral, earning more than 13 million views in just six days.

The two young boys, who are probably brothers, encounter two large snakes in a field, which is being ploughed with a tractor. As soon as the duo spots the snakes hiding in the grass, the boys try to catch the giant snakes with a shovel.

While one of them holds a snake down with a farming tool, the other boy catches the snake by its neck. He then carries it across the field and leaves it in a separate grassland, probably where the reptile can do no harm. The snake can be seen slithering away after a moment or two.

By then, the young lad's brother can be seen carrying another snake, which is wrapped around his hands. The other snake is also freed beside the first one. In the video, the kids can also be seen playing with the huge snakes fearlessly.

According to Thailand Snakes, some of the deadliest species of snakes found in Cambodia are Malayan Krait, Banded Krait, Small-spotted Coral Snake, Malayan Pit Viper, Monocellate Cobra, Monocled Cobra, King Cobra, Mountain Pit Viper, Blotched Pit Viper Speckle-bellied Keelback, among others.

Although poisonous snakes and other deadly creatures are a constant threat to the people inhabiting the remote parts of many countries, they have learnt to adopt a nonchalant attitude toward the ever-lurking danger of being attacked by these creatures.

“In our village one person was bitten by a snake. He was taken to hospital and he recovered,” Maragadham, a 36-year-old childminder, who lives on the outskirts of Chennai, India, told South China Morning Post in December. “Snakes are found in most homes, but they are not a threat to us.”

India is famous for harboring a large number of snakes of different species. Maragadham lives in a part of the country where people make a living out of catching deadly snakes and harvesting their poison for a living, on almost a daily basis.

People in such areas have even figured out how to use snakes themselves to prepare antidotes for snake poison. They prepare the antidote by injecting non-lethal quantities of venom from certain snake species into horses, combining them with the antigens that are produced naturally in the horses’ bodies.

Even though the video shows the kids treating the snakes as playthings, this is something that should not be repeated. According to Wild Backpacker, one of the key ways to avoid snake bites is to avoid provoking the creature in question, unless a person has exclusive training in handling them.

Snakes usually do not attack humans because they want to conserve their poison for preys like rats and other small rodents. However, if a snake can sense that their life is in danger, it can turn violent.
