A crocodile attack that left a British woman with a leg wound was captured on camera while the woman was standing by a river in Queensland, Australia.

Mobile phone footage posted on social media showed a fish splashing about at the water's edge before the crocodile, identified to be a saltwater one, described by the authorities to be between 6-feet to 8-feet long, suddenly appeared to jump out of the water towards the tourists as their laughter turned to screams.

The attack was said to have taken place on Monday, as the woman was walking along the edge of a creek in Cape Tribulation, north of Queensland.

The tourist, Ally Bullifent, who posted the video to her Facebook page, suffered a bite wound to her leg and was treated at the Mossman hospital near Cairns in Queensland. She was discharged after receiving treatment, reports said.

The short video of the crocodile’s attack was posted on Facebook along with another picture that showed cuts and blood on the woman's thigh.

Queensland's Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (DEHP) said the tourist was bitten by a saltwater crocodile. They added that their officers will carry out a site assessment of the area where the incident took place and will potentially target the reptile in order to remove it, Independent.ie reported.

DEHP also renewed warnings to people and reminded them to be aware of the dangers from saltwater crocodiles in the area, and so to obey warning signs and not get too close to the water's edge.

"DEHP reminds residents and visitors to North Queensland that no waterway in croc country can ever be considered to be free of crocodiles," a spokesperson from the department said, according to 9news.com in Australia.

This was the second time a tourist has been attacked by a crocodile at Cape Tribulation in Australia since the attack in May last year in which a woman was killed by a 4.3-meter (about 15 feet) crocodile while she was on a swim with her friend at Thornton beach in the Daintree national park, north of Cairns.
