WATCH: Dutch Airbnb Host Pushes South African Guest Down The Stairs In Alleged Racial Attack

An Airbnb host in Amsterdam faced charges of attempts to murder after he pushed his South African guest down the stairs, which was captured by one of the victim’s friends, reports said Monday.

The victim, filmmaker Sibalhe Nkumbi, was in the city to review a friend’s art exhibition when the incident took place on Saturday.

The altercation took place while Nkumbi was checking out of her Airbnb lodging past her check-out time. This infuriated her woman host who asked them to leave immediately. Nkumbi said she and her friend apologized to the woman, who appeared to be angry about the inconvenience and left them alone to finish packing.

However, the woman returned with her husband, who Nkumbi said was extremely angry.

She said: "We knew that we were late and we heard a bell ring. We opened the door to this lady. She stated that this is not acceptable; you guys need to pack and leave now. And I was like, 'Yes, give us a few minutes to pack,' and I apologized profusely for us being late and we were getting ready to leave."

"And that's when she came back a few minutes later with the husband and he was banging the door," Nkumbi added.

A video of the alleged assault was recorded and posted by Nkumbi’s friend Zanele Muholi on her Instagram account. Nkumbi also posted a video on YouTube explaining the entire incident.

In the video, the Dutchman is seen pushing the filmmaker down the stairs and yelling in English, "Out!"

Nkumbi said the man told her: "You need to leave now. This is not Africa."

"As I was gripping against the wall he's trying to get me to his position and eventually I lost my grip and that's when I flew down," she said.

After being pushed, Nkumbi instantly loses grip and slides down the stairs, head-first.

"I don't remember how it happened," she added. "I woke up in hospital, in pain. And then I got the video of the story. Everyone was freaking out, the police came to question me."

The alleged suspect has not been named by the police. Police told the Independent that an investigation regarding the incident was still ongoing.

Zanele, a photographer and artist, who posted the video on Instagram claimed it was racially motivated.

She wrote in her caption on the Instagram video: "One of my friends/Inkanyiso crew members was pushed downstairs by the Airbnb owner where we stayed."

"Am so angry with this I couldn't even sleep. This is racism and can't be justified... violence on black bodies as you can see in this video," she added.

David King, Airbnb’s director of diversity and belonging, said in a statement to news.com.au: "Appalling and unconscionable behavior against members of our community runs counter to everything Airbnb stands for. Our CEO Brian Chesky and I are reaching out to the affected guests."

"We will take the strongest actions we can against such abhorrent conduct, including banning people for life from our platform and assisting law enforcement with their investigation and potential prosecution. Nobody should ever be treated like this and it will not be tolerated," King added.

Twitter users came up with a hashtag "Airbnbwhileblack" after the incident. Some claimed they wouldn't stay at an Airbnb and would rather book a hotel while others said the incident had rattled them.
