Watch 'Hunger Games: Mockingjay' Trailer: 'Peeta Is the Capitol's Weapon' [VIDEO]
Fans got one step closer to the highly anticipated release of “The Hunger Games: Mockingay- Part 1” when the official trailer debuted Monday. The nearly two-minute trailer gives glimpses of all the major characters and teases viewers about the monumental battle Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) faces as the reluctant symbol of a mass rebellion against the autocratic Capitol.
“I never wanted any of this. I never wanted to be in the games,” she says in the official trailer. “I just wanted to save my sister and keep Peeta alive.”
President Snow (Donald Sutherland) makes an appearance. “Miss Everdeen, it’s the things we love most that destroy us,” he says. Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) was captured by the Capitol after the Quarter Quell and brainwashed with tracker jack venom to hate Katniss and act as a mouthpiece for Snow.
“I want everyone who’s watching to lay their weapons down now,” Peeta says during an interview with Caesar (Stanley Tucci). Katniss is elated to see he is still alive even though it seems like he switched sides.
“Peeta is the Capitol’s weapon,” Haymitch (Woody Harrelson) explains to Katniss. “The same way you’re ours.” But she’s not willing to let him remain in the Capitol.
“You will rescue Peeta at the earliest opportunity or you will find another Mockingjay,” she threatens the leaders of the rebel army, led by President Alma Coin (Julianne Moore).
The explosive trailer finishes with Katniss and Gale (Liam Hemsworth) shooting down Capitol aircraft with their high-tech bows and arrows.
There are fleeting glimpses of Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) in rebel garb and of Finnick, Prim, Beetee and Plutarch Heavensbee (the late Philip Seymour Hoffman). Johanna Mason, who was captured by the Capitol, was not shown in the trailer.
Tickets for the film will be on pre-sale Oct. 29. The first part of the final film is in theaters on Nov. 21.
