Watch Kesha’s Surprise Coachella Appearance; Who Did She Perform With? [VIDEO]
Kesha may not be returning to the recording studio yet, but she has returned to the stage. The singer made her first major stage appearance since her legal battle with Dr. Luke started making headlines. She performed at Coachella music festival Saturday night, and it looks like fans went wild.
Zedd invited the “Die Young” singer to the stage for a rendition of his 2015 single, “True Colors.” Watch her sing below:
The songstress (who was born Kesha Rose Sebert) is in the midst of a legal battle with Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald. She claims that he raped and verbally abused her, and she wants to be released from her recording contract. She is signed to Dr. Luke’s label, Kemosabe Records (owned by Sony Music Entertainment) but has been told that she doesn’t have to work directly with Dr. Luke. Judge Shirley Kornreich told Kesha that the offer to work without the producer “decimates your argument,” Billboard reports. Her claims were dismissed in New York court, but the legal battle will likely continue elsewhere.
Throughout her lawsuit, celebrities have come forward to support Kesha. Zedd, whose given name is Anton Zaslavski, offered public support in February, and he also said he was willing to work with the “Tik Tok” singer when she is able to return to a recording studio.
Though Coachella, held in Indio, California, was the singer’s first major stage appearance, it isn’t the first time she has been onstage recently. She played a much smaller show in South Padre Island, Texas, on March 18.
Kesha’s surprise appearance wasn’t announced, but many fans suspected that she would steal the spotlight during Coachella. When the 29-year-old revealed on Instagram that she was flying somewhere and seemed to be counting down to something, her followers knew they were in for a treat.
Coachella is the first of a handful festivals that Kesha will play this summer. Check out her list of upcoming shows here.
