WATCH: New Zealand Police Releases ‘World’s Most Entertaining Recruitment Video’
In an attempt to attract more applicants, New Zealand police released a hilarious recruitment video, dubbing it the "world’s most entertaining police recruitment video." The action in the video follows a diverse cast of officers in the line of duty.
It was first published by the department on YouTube on Nov. 25 and has gone viral since then.
"Freeze! NZ Police's most entertaining recruitment video, yet!" the police department's recruiting website said of the action movie-style video.
"With over 70 real cops, the police band, police cats, helicopters and stunts, we're here to encourage a range of New Zealanders to join our team," it added.
Police Commissioner Mike Bush and even the country’s social media star William "Waiirua" Cribb make cameo apperances in the two-and-a-half minute video.
The video has all the elements of a fast-paced police chase, showcasing different aspects of police work with plenty of comic relief while embracing all ethnicities, gender and even species. It even has a cat and a dog in police vests.
It shows an officer running at full speed, stoping abruptly to help an elderly man slowly crossing the street as the local internet celebrity, William Cribb, entertains a stopped driver with some of his dance moves.
"Do you care enough to be a cop?" one officer is heard shouting through a bullhorn after persuading a furry, four-legged thief into dropping a woman's purse. "Take the first step and visit newcops.co.nz," he added.
The video has garnered over 300,000 views on YouTube since it was posted.
"You can choose from over 30 different careers, like underwater business or youth work or police commissioner stuff," officers were heard saying while diving, swimming, dancing and sitting behind a cluster of microphones.
The video was also posted on the department's Facebook page on Sunday and has garnered over 3 million views, over 40,000 likes and more than 50,000 shares at the time of publishing the story.
The New Zealand police’s official website stated that it welcomes applications from anyone who has "what it takes, regardless of height, gender, ethnicity, culture, sexuality, or faith."
"To better reflect New Zealand’s growing diversity we want you to bring your background, culture, and values to the job," it added.
"The feedback we’ve been receiving from across New Zealand and the world since the launch has been phenomenal," Commissioner Bush said in a press release Monday.
"We always knew this would be popular but the results have completely exceeded our expectations. Our new recruitment video is working for us. At 9 a.m EST today there had been an 800 percent increase in traffic to the ‘New Cops’ website since the launch of the video," he added.
