Viral video footage showed a 12-foot python being captured at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Government Degree College in Allahabad, India, on Wednesday. The sight of the massive reptile created a lot of panic at the college campus, but it was soon captured and rescued by a Botany professor, who teaches at the college. He later handed over the reptile to forest department officials.

A senior professor of the Botany Department, N.B. Singh, captured the 40 kilogram snake after he received a call from a student about the reptile spotted on campus.

"As I was busy with the visiting professor, I was initially reluctant but when the thought came to my mind that students might kill the python, I rushed to the spot and caught hold of the reptile," Singh told the Times Of India.

The entire incident was captured on video. The video posted on YouTube by NDTV India garnered over 20,000 views at the time of publishing this story.

"The python was hostile, and it took a lot of effort to capture," Singh told News 18.

The video showed Singh struggling to hold and lift the heavy reptile with his bare hands. When he finally gets a hold of it, he is seen putting it in a bag. He later handed the snake over to forest officials of Soraon division in Allahabad. The snake will be released later into the wild in Sankargarh area, Uttar Pradesh in India, India.com reported.

Pythons are considered to be one of the largest snakes in the world. These non-venomous snakes are commonly found in Asia, Africa, and Australia. Pythons are not dangerous unless they are provoked.

This python was the 15th snake caught by the professor in the past 12 months. He is known to catch snakes and said he caught this python because his aim was to relocate it to safety and make other people aware of the fact that pythons are not dangerous until they are provoked, according to NDTV India.
