Watch As ‘Sister Wives’ Christine Brown Makes Unusual Demand After Polygamy Decriminalization
The Browns have a lot to celebrate on “Sister Wives,” because while their lives have been turned upside down because of the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, they will still receive some very good news.
In a preview clip for the newest episode of the show, Robyn and Kody break the news to their children--Dayton, Breanna, Aurora, Solomon and Ariella—and reveal that Utah, the state they were forced to flee from ten years earlier, had changed plural marriage from a felony to an infraction, meaning it was effectively decriminalized, and the worst punishment Kody, Robyn, Meri, Janelle or Christine could receive was a ticket, instead of jail time.
As they announce the news to the kids, both Janelle and Meri also discuss the news during confessionals, with Janelle also sharing her excitement, while Meri matter-of-factly states that it never should have been illegal because they were never hurting anyone else.
“We are like, no longer felons for living our religion...For 150 years, we’ve been felons,” Janelle says. “It’s like, I don’t believe it. It’s so surreal.”
“Honestly, it’s basic human rights, civil rights,” Meri adds. “I don’t think Kody sharing a bedroom with another adult woman is hurting anybody else.”
However, the celebratory mood could quickly begin to shift, as Christine also started to weigh in on the news—and confesses to her kids that she wants to go back to Utah now, meaning the family would move for a third time in 10 years.
“Awesome, let’s go back!” she says in her own confessional. “I freaking want to move back to Utah.”
Unfortunately, she will likely face resistance—fans have long believed the move to Flagstaff was tied to Dayton going to school there, meaning Robyn won’t want to leave. However, Christine’s own children, specifically Gwendlyn, are also expressing no desire to leave the new lives they have built.
“I don’t want to move back,” she says in the clip.
“Sister Wives” airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EDT on TLC.
