When an idea rooted in morality is backed by science, people better relate to the same. For the same reason, when popular scientist Bill Nye used scientific terms to explain why racism is wrong, and how "We are all one species" in a video, social media had to make it viral.

In the TikTok video, Nye stands in front of a world map and explains in simple terms the reason why skin colors are so diverse. Nye explains that the human race began in Africa and got dispersed to different locations of the world. As people migrated to various geographies, their skin got adapted depending on the sunlight, to balance between vitamin D generation and folate breakdown, he says in the video.

"If you get too much ultraviolet, then you break down your folates. You have to have it in perfect balance, and because the ultraviolet varies, the color of our skin varies,” Nye says in the video.

The video has been shared by Rex Chapman, former professional basketball player and social media influencer, on Twitter, captioned: "Bill Nye destroying racism in one minute."

Chapman's Tweet was shared more than 11.9K times and has initiated a heated discussion on race and species.

Replying to Chapman's tweet, a user added more insights into the evolution of the human race and restated that there is only one race. The user said: "50,000 years ago, four sibling races sharing this world. Homo Sapiens, Neanderthal, Denisovan, Homo floresiensis. Now only we remain, and every single person on Earth is Homo Sapiens. One species, one race."

Another user drew parallels from animal species and explained: "Genetically we're all the same. Just like with many other creatures. In the same way that a German Shepard and a Doberman Pincer may look different but they're still the same genus & species."

Meanwhile, a few were of the opinion that there shouldn't even be a need to prove why racism is wrong.

And then, there were the skeptical ones. A person replied to the tweet saying thus:" It's so not destroying racism though. Racism is a power structure."

"There are and have always been those who will exploit our perceived differences for their personal gain," another said.
