'Wendy Williams Show' Website, Social Media Deleted After Series Finale
KEY POINTS
- The "Wendy Williams Show's" website had been scrubbed completely, two weeks after the final episode aired
- The show's official Instagram page and YouTube channel are also no longer accessible
- Wendy Williams took home her iconic purple chair, which she reportedly plans to feature in her upcoming podcast
Traces of "The Wendy Williams Show" appear to have been wiped from the internet following its cancellation.
Over the weekend, fans noticed that the daytime talk show's official website had been scrubbed, while its social media pages — Instagram and YouTube — appeared to have been taken down.
Wendyshow.com and wendywilliamsproductions.com no longer direct to their previous pages, Variety reported. The official website for Wendy Williams Productions is listed for auction under GoDaddy, while the talk show's website reports a DNS error.
Searches for the "Wendy Williams Show's" official YouTube channel, which contained an archive of clips and interviews from the show, yield no results. The @WendyShow handle shows a "Sorry, this page isn't available" error on Instagram.
Wendy Williams and the show's former production company/distributor Debmar-Mercury have not publicly addressed the removal of the website and social media pages.
"The Wendy Williams Show," which first premiered in 2008, aired its final episode on June 17. Its eponymous host did not appear in a single episode in the last season after she suffered various health problems.
The send-off episode concluded without Williams, but it did include a video tribute to her.
Although Williams' iconic show appears to no longer have any digital footprint, she was able to retrieve her purple chair from the set, Page Six reported. Williams will be using it during her upcoming podcast, which is still in the works.
"That was hers, and it signifies the old chapter closing as we start the new one," Williams' manager Will Selby told The Sun of the significance of her purple chair.
"We are going to take it, and that will be part of her new show," he said of her foray into podcasting.
Selby advised Williams to take her things home because he felt that some items were iconic. Aside from the purple chair, they also grabbed a couple of wigs, custom-made shoes and pieces of artwork and brought them to her apartment.
Initially, Williams was expected to return to her TV show, but Sherri Shepherd, who served as a guest host over the past year, including the final episode, will take over the former's time slot with her own talk show, "Sherri."
Williams has since decided to move on from television and enter the world of podcasts. "I am 100% retired from 'The Wendy Williams Show,' and I don't want to be on TV," she said on "TMZ Live" last month.
But she is not closing the door on TV completely as she said she is open to making guest appearances on talk shows such as "The View."
As for her switch from TV hosting to podcasting, Williams explained that it came down to the convenience of doing something new and using her popularity to earn more.
"I've got enough money to do something else and what I've never done — podcasts," she said. "When you're famous, podcasts will make more money. For me, being famous, [it will make more money] than doing the 'Wendy William Show.'"
