Westboro Baptist Church invites a DDoS attack from Anonymous
Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) raised a cudgel against Anonymous, claiming that its website is under threat from the outfit known for taking down sites with Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.
Westboro Baptist Church, which carries out vitriolic attacks in its campaign against homosexuals and runs a website titled God Hates Fags, is also known to picket funeral services of soldiers with caustic messages like Thank God for 4 more dead troops. We are praying for 4,000 more. The church now claims that it received an open threat from Anonymous stating: Cease & desist your protest campaign in the year 2011, return to your homes in Kansas, & close your public Web sites. Should you ignore this warning, you will meet with the vicious retaliatory arm of ANONYMOUS: We will target your public Websites, and the propaganda & detestable doctrine that you promote will be eradicated; the damage incurred will be irreversible.
Anonymous gained limelight in December 2010 for undertaking high profile DDoS attacks against major websites like PayPal in support of the whistleblower site Wikileaks under its Operation Avenge Assange. Anonymous which called itself the collective super-consciousness in the open letter called Westboro Baptist Church an assembly of graceless sociopaths and maniacal chauvinists & religious zealots.
In response to the letter WBC retorted saying Bring it! and called Anonymous Coward Crybaby Hackers. The Register reported that Anonymous is accusing the WBC of making-up the Open letter and is inviting a DDoS attack to gain publicity.
In a press release Anonymous stated: We're a bit groggy and don't remember sending it. It chided WBC saying, You observed our rising notoriety and thought you would exploit our paradigm for your gain and closed the letter stating Next time, don't call us. We'll call you.
WBC's God's wrath-related ramblings include statistics that it posts on its website which associate soldiers killed in Afghanistan, national debt and BP oil spill in the Mexican Gulf as signs of God-induced judgment. It also has a tracker stating people whom God has cast into hell since you loaded the page and the last count it stated was 7,966.
