What ‘Bold Type’ Star Aisha Dee Loves About Kat And Adena’s Relationship

Kat and Adena are one of the major couples on “The Bold Type,” and while their relationship can be complicated, they never stop talking for long. Aisha Dee, who plays Kat, revealed that this is one of her favorite aspects of the Kadena romance.

“One of the things I really love about this relationship is their communication,” the actress told the New York Times. “When there’s a problem, they talk about it.”

It’s true. When Kat kissed another woman, hardly any time passed before she told Adena (Nikohl Boosheri). The two quickly worked out the terms of an open relationship, and Kat spoke up again after realizing last week that she wanted to be a one-woman kind of gal. The Kadena drama isn’t over yet, though.

When the couple left off last week, they were having trouble scheduling time together because of the rules of their open relationship. As they return to an exclusive relationship, they might discover some other issues. (Spoiler Alert: Minor plot details from Tuesday’s “The Bold Type” finale are below.)

As the ladies head to Paris Fashion Week in “The Bold Type” Season 2, episode 13, Adena will tag along for the trip and run into some old friends from the art world. (Fans will recall that she spent several weeks there in Season 1.) Kat will suddenly realize that while her career in social media has been taking off, Adena has not been producing art the way she was when they first met. Kat has to wonder why.

She, of course, will communicate her concerns to Adena, but Dee knows it isn’t just their talking skills that audiences identify with. The actress, whose character has focused on her biracial identity this season, added that viewers are fans of Kadena because they are a diverse queer couple on TV.

“And I just think that people connect with the fact that you’re seeing two women of color in love,” she said. “It’s rare. It shouldn’t be. It’s incredibly rare to see on television, especially in young adult television.”

“The Bold Type” Season 2 finale airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform. The series has already been renewed for Season 3, which recently started filming in Montreal.
