What caused George Sodini to shoot at Pa. Gym?
A gunman allegedly opened fire in a Latin dance class at a Pennsylvania health club Tuesday night, killing three women before turning a gun on himself.
George Sodini, 48, entered the gym shortly after 8 p.m. EDT and opened fire in a rampage that left at least 10 people wounded, according to Allegheny Country Police Superintendent Charles Moffatt.
He did not say anything. He walked into the room as if he knew where he was going and pulled out the guns and began shooting, Moffatt said, adding that police found two guns at the scene.
Moffatt said the three victims were all women and that there were between 60 and 70 people at the facility at the time of the shooting.
Police are investigating what caused Sodini to shoot and what are the motives for Sodini's rampage.
In Sodini's online blog, he writes as early as November of 2008 that he had planned to do it, but said, I figure I will stick around to see the elections outcome. He was referring to the presidential election.
These are the rambling messages of a likely psychotic who has been severely depressed for a long time, forensic psychologist Naftali Berrill said of Sodini's blogs.
Sodini also reveals in his online blog that he hasn’t had a girlfriend since 1984. He says, “I am not too ugly or weird.” He further claims 30-million women rejected him over an 18 to 25 year period.
Forensic psychologists said that judging from Sodini's writings he was likely severely depressed and felt that the shooting was the one way he could garner people's interest in him.
A combination of feelings of neglect, loneliness, insanity, and perhaps a fear of losing his job may have all contributed to what set off him to plot his revenge on the young girls that look so beautiful, investigators said.
The loner, who feels he was neglected as a child and seeks attention through killing, fits the classic profile for a mass shooter, law enforcement officials said.
