What Did Amy Schumer Say To Bashers Who Claimed She Shouldn’t Play The Role Of Barbie?
Amy Schumer is currently in talks to play the role of Barbie in Mattel’s upcoming film, but not everyone is supportive of her possible casting.
Immediately after the announcement, critics urged the toy company to reconsider giving the role to another actress who would fit Barbie’s image of perfection, according to The Guardian. One writer also claimed that Mattel is destroying their name and credibility if they will actually give Schumer the chance to give life to the popular doll.
After all of the fat and body shaming she received online, Schumer responded to her critics via a lengthy post on Instagram. The actress also posted a full-body photo of herself wearing a one-piece swimsuit.
Schumer clarified that she wasn’t upset over the criticisms she received online because she never considered herself to be fat. The actress added that she never felt ashamed of her body either. In the end, Schumer thanked her bashers for taking the time to talk about her. For the actress, this means that they just made her the best choice for the role. “It’s that kind of response that lets you know something’s wrong with our culture and we all need to work together to change it,” she concluded.
Meanwhile, despite the negativity she has received recently, Schumer is still grateful for her two nominations at the 2017 Grammys. The actress is nominated for Best Comedy Album for “Live at the Apollo.” She is also up for an award in the Best Spoken Word Album category for her audio book, “The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo.” Other nominees in the said category include David Cross, Margaret Cho, Tig Notaro and Patton Oswalt. Carol Burnett, Patti Smith and Elvis Costello are nominated in the Best Spoken Word Album category.
The 59th annual Grammys will air on CBS on Feb. 12.
