Popstar Sia took to Twitter on Thursday to confirm her diagnosis of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a neurological disease that causes chronic pain. The singer also expressed sympathy with any followers similarly dealing with chronic pain.

“Hey, I'm suffering with chronic pain, a neurological disease, ehlers danlos and I just wanted to say to those of you suffering from pain, whether physical or emotional, I love you, keep going,” Sia tweeted. “Life is f**king hard. Pain is demoralizing, and you're not alone.”

What is Ehlers Danlos?

According to The Ehlers Danlos Society, Ehlers Danlos is a group of genetic conditions that typically concern connective tissues, like joints or skin. Those who suffer from an Ehlers Danlos condition might have hyper-mobile joints, hyper-flexible skin, or tissue fragility. Sufferers can experience intense joint pain, easily bruised or torn skin, slow-healing wounds, and severe scarring. Ehlers Danlos can also result in early-onset osteoarthritis.

The prognosis for those with the condition varies depending on which type they have. Vascular Ehlers Danlos can shorten a person’s life expectancy due to the possibility of organ or blood vessel ruptures. There currently no cure for the conditions but treatment and preventative options are available.

It is unclear based on her tweet or any other past statements about which type of Ehlers Danlos Sia might be diagnosed with.
