UPDATED 7/30 10:26 a.m. EDT: Pompano Pat's is denying that George Zimmerman works or ever worked for them. The manager of the chain told the Associated Press that Zimmerman was "in no way, shape or form" employed by the DeLand location of Pompano Pat's.

Original story:

A Florida chain of motorcycle shops that also sells guns and ammunition has a new security guard: George Zimmerman.

Pompano Pat's, which has locations in Deland, Daytona and Palm Coast, Florida, now employs the controversial Zimmerman, who last year was found not guilty of murder in the 2012 killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, ABC affiliate WFTV reported Tuesday. A Deland Police Department report indicated Zimmerman was working as a Pompano Pat's security guard, hired by the chain after a burglary occurred at its Deland store.

Zimmerman’s not guilty verdict in July 2013 sent shockwaves throughout Florida and beyond, especially among the African-American community, and divided the country. Trayvon was unarmed during the deadly February 2012 run-in with Zimmerman, who said he shot Trayvon in self-defense.

Pompano Pat's appears to be a strong supporter of gun rights, with links to join the National Rifle Association and information on gun classes listed on its website. A banner ad on the site for gunshoppers.com describes Pompano Pat's as “Real Straight Shooters.”
