What Is Giving Tuesday? Ways To Donate Via Facebook, List Of Nonprofits
After shopping Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals, people are now being asked to give to those who are in need for #GivingTuesday.
#GivingTuesday is a global initiative that is propelled by social media. With the hashtag trending on Twitter on Tuesday, people on social media asked others to donate money or time to certain charitable organizations.
For those who are participating in the year’s #GivingTuesday event, below are some ways to give to others this Holiday season.
1. Facebook #GivingTuesday
Facebook announced it will team up with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to double the impact of every donation. The social media platform and the organization will match up to $2 million in funds raised on Facebook for U.S. nonprofits.
The social media company also detailed three ways in which Facebook users can use the platform to give. One way to participate is to create a fundraiser by going to Facebook.com/fundraisers and clicking “Raise Money.” Users can select from a list of 750,000 nonprofits. The fundraiser page includes different categories, like animals, education and health.
Another way a user can give using Facebook is by adding a donate button to a post or Live video. Users can write a post by tagging the nonprofit they choose or adding #donate to the post. The post will then automatically add a donate button. For donations on Live broadcasts, users can tap the “Add Donate Button” from the menu.
Users can also find charitable organizations on Facebook and donate directly.
