What Happens When Queen Elizabeth II Dies? From Code Words To Bells
Queen Elizabeth II’s death is not something that is publicly discussed, but this doesn’t mean her staff isn’t preparing for the sad event behind closed doors.
According to Reader’s Digest, several things will happen when the monarch passes away. The prime minister – who is currently Theresa May – will use code words to announce Her Majesty’s passing privately. “London Bridge is down” will be uttered.
Operation London Bridge refers to the Queen, but it also means the careful planning that will go into assuring her death will be handled gracefully. Following her demise, all new outlets will be informed regarding what happened to the Queen so that they could release their reports accurately.
The Queen’s memorial service will most likely be televised by the different news outlets. And it is up to them how they will do so. Flags will also be lowered to half-mast and bells will toll in churches around the city.
When the Queen dies, the members of the parliament would also convene immediately. Prince Charles will take over his mom’s role as the head of the Commonwealth, but a meeting would still have to be organized to ensure that everyone will pledge their allegiance to the Duke of Cornwall.
In the event that the Queen dies while she is not in London, a plane from the Royal Air Force will send a coffin with royal undertakers that will take her body back to London. If the Queen passes away in the United Kingdom but not in London, a car will transport her body to the palace.
And if she dies while she is at the Balmoral Castle in Scotland, the Queen’s body will be moved to Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh then it will be carried to the Royal Mile and St. Giles Cathedral for a service. The casket will then be transported to London via the Royal Train.
It is also important to note that when dies, the line of succession will change. Prince Charles will become king, and he will have the opportunity to choose his official title. Prince William will be next in line to the throne following his three children and then Prince Harry.
