Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz announced their split this week, but she may have hinted at their marriage troubles months ago.
During an interview with Page Six in January, Maloney, whose ups and downs with Schwartz have been heavily documented throughout "Vanderpump Rules," admitted that their marriage was "not perfect."
"Obviously, we are not perfect. We fight a lot. We don't try to hide our flaws," the 35-year-old Bravo star told the outlet. "We don't try to hide that we have issues and lie and try to maintain this perfect front."
However, at the time, Maloney said that their commitment to being transparent to fans and sharing both the good and bad sides of their relationship has been "really helpful" in keeping their marriage strong.
"When people try to act like they have a perfect relationship, that’s when things can kind of fall apart because it can be exhausting to keep that up," she added. "Because we do put it all out there and we're not ashamed of it … we're living the truth."
However, Maloney confirmed in a post on Instagram Tuesday that she and Schwartz are parting ways after more than a decade together. The reality star said she decided to announce the news because she feels it is "important" that she's open about her life to fans.
"After 12 years on an adventure through life together Tom and I are ending our marriage. This ending is not met with resentment or animosity, no sides to choose. We have deep admiration for one another that will always remain and we cherish our friendship," she wrote.
"Although we may be on different paths we will continue to love and support one another's happiness. Thank you for all the kind words and support," Maloney concluded her announcement, which was accompanied by a series of photos of the now-exes.
Schwartz also confirmed their split via social media, sharing some throwback photos and videos of them alongside a heartfelt message.
He wrote on Instagram that he "fully" respects Maloney's decision and stressed that they had "healthy, productive conversations" about their relationship before calling quits.
Schwartz added that it would be "far sadder" if his wife decides to stay with him while being unhappy after they had "some of the most blissful, romantic, fun times humanly possible over the course of our relationship."
"She taught me so much about love and being a better partner. It's hard not to feel like a statistic. Another failed marriage," he continued. "I don't look at it as a failure. As sad as I am, [I'm] still happy to say there's no anger or bitterness. Zero. Still so much love for you @musickillskate."
He ended his message by assuring fans that he would be fine and giving Maloney a shoutout. "Love you, Bub. Always and forever you'll be in my heart," he wrote.
News of the breakup comes after Maloney ditched her engagement ring and wedding band in an Instagram post last week.
In February, Maloney also shared a quote from Kim Kardashian's Vogue cover story that read, "In the last two years, I decided I'm going to make myself happy. And that feels really good. And even if that created changes and caused my divorce, I think it's important to be honest with yourself about what really makes you happy."
The quote ended: "I've chosen myself. I think it's okay to choose you."
Maloney and Schwartz were married in 2016 but didn't file the official paperwork to be legally wed until 2019.
