What Is A 'Push Party'? Beyoncé Throws Star-Studded Event Ahead Of Twins' Birth
Beyoncé celebrated the impending arrival of her twin babies Saturday with a “Carter Push Party,” which was attended by a star-studded roster of close friends and family. The push party for the Grammy-winning artist and her husband Jay Z was reportedly thrown by Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles, who shared pictures and videos from the event in California.
Unlike baby showers, which are generally held only attended by women close to the mother-to-be, push parties can be attended by both genders. Baby showers are also traditionally held for a firstborn, while push parties are more of a celebration of the arrival of a new child (or children) and happen closer to the actual birth — which Beyoncé’s father Matthew Knowles said could be within weeks.

Speaking with TMZ Friday, Matthew told the gossip site that the birth of the twins will likely be “more than two weeks.” But judging by photos shared on Beyoncé’s Instagram, it seemed as though the big day could happen at any moment.
The lavish West African-themed event incorporated the elements of the influence of Nigerian Afrobeat musician Fela Kuti, for whom the Carter family’s appreciation is well documented. As Complex reported Sunday, “Jay Z was a producer for the Broadway musical about Kuti's life, while Bey reportedly recorded (and then scrapped) an entire 20-track album inspired by his sound.”
An insider told E! News Saturday that guests arrived at the party, which was reportedly held at a private residence in Beverly Hills in limos around 2 p.m. Guests in attendance included La La Anthony, Serena Williams as well as Destiny’s Child alum Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Beyoncé was seen dancing at the event with her bare belly covered in Henna designs.
In one video posted to Tina Knowles’ Instagram, Beyoncé’s guests could be heard saying, “Happy Carter Push Party!” According to the E! News source, Blue Ivy was also in attendance and was seen “kissing [Beyoncé’s] belly and rubbing it.”
The “Formation” artist posted pictures from the event to her Instagram account Sunday. Beyoncé and Jay Z were depicted in the black and white photos dancing and laughing while Queen Bey showed off her baby bump.
