What We've Learned About 'GOT' Season 8 Since Cast Arrivals In Belfast
Fans will be waiting until 2019 to see how "Game of Thrones" officially come to an end, and the HBO series is employing some intense security measures to keep things from leaking about the show's highly anticipated final season. However, as the cast continues to arrive in Belfast before they start production on the show's final six episodes, some small tidbits have begun to leak.
While the cast has not yet begun filming and has only arrived in the city to do their first table reads and begin rehearsals, fans wasted no time taking to social media to share updates as the various members of the cast began arriving in Northern Ireland. In addition, some of the cast members have also opened up about the security measures being taken to make sure the final season isn't leaked as well.
Here's everything we've learned from the arrivals:
Everyone We Know Survived Season 7 Is Back
Watchers On The Wall collected a series of tweets from fans showing several actors, whose characters were known to survive Season 7, arriving in the city. Among them were Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran Stark), Jacob Anderson (Greyworm), Ben Crompton (Dolorous Edd) and Pilou Asbæk.
One Character's Fate May Have Finally Been Revealed
Also spotted in Belfast was Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane). His presence has seemingly indicated that despite a cliffhanger in the Season 7 finale which saw him atop the Wall at Eastwatch-by-the-Sea when the Night King melted it down with the flames of a reanimated Viserion, Tormund is possibly still alive.
Of course, while Hivju's presence would indicate he is involved in the new season, there is no guarantee how long he will be there, as several characters are likely to be killed off quickly. In addition, since he was never confirmed alive or dead on-screen, Tormund could also be seen again on the show—but as a member of the Night King's army instead.
There Is A Bigger Lockdown On Scripts Than Ever Before
Since the show has been plagued with leaks for years, the production has consistently tried to avoid major spoiler and plot leaks. The need to keep things from leaking is greater than ever now that the show is going into its final season, which likely won't even air until 2019.
In an interview with IGN, Liam Cunningham, who portrays Ser Davos Seaworth, revealed that he has all of the scripts for Season 8, but he literally cannot read them ahead of time due to the security measures that have been taken.
"I've got them all," he said. "But I can't open them because of all the security, and I can't walk it out."
According to Forbes, this is because the scripts are only digital copies that are only available for viewing at the show's Belfast studios, and in order to read them, cast members need specific authorization to unlock the copies.
