Why 'Game Of Thrones' Season 8 Will Be 'Monumental'
Fans likely had no doubt that the final season of "Game of Thrones" would be epic, but for those who were worried the final six episodes of the HBO megahit series would be underwhelming, there's new confidence that the series will certainly impress.
In an interview with The Huffington Post, John Bradley, who portrays the lovable Samwell Tarly on the series, discussed how the show would be bringing its best game yet in the final episodes, starting with the hiring of directors David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik, as well as showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss, to helm all the episodes.
"We assembled a team of directors this year who have been in charge of some of our big episodes in the past," he said. "Miguel and David have dome some of the standout episodes of previous seasons. Clearly, every single episode of the six you've got left in Season 8 is gonna be monumental and needs somebody at the helm who's done that kind of high-stakes, high-octane direction before for us."
"I think what we used to call Episode 9 in 'Game of Thrones' folklore – the episode when everything comes to a head and you get a lot of spectacular sequences—I think you're gonna get six 'episode 9's' this year," he added.
Among the episodes that Nutter has previously directed are Season 2's "The Old Gods and the New," and "A Man Without Honor," Season 3's "The Rains of Castamere" and "Mhysa," and Season 5's "The Dance of Dragons" and "Mother's Mercy." Sapochnik meanwhile, has helmed season 5 heavy hitting episodes "The Gift" and "Hardhome," as well as Season 6 episodes "Battle of the Bastards" and "The Winds of Winter."
Overall, the last season of "Game of Thrones" is set to be one of the most expensive ever produced for television. It was reported last month that the final six episodes are reportedly set to cost HBO $15 million each to produce.
However, other reports that show would tape multiple endings to avoid spoilers getting out and leaked ahead of the final season's airing on the network have since been blasted. After HBO director of programming Casey Bloys said that was a move the show would take, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who stars as Jaime Lannister slammed the statement in an interview with Marie Clare, saying it seemed like a "stupid" waste of money to do so.
"Do you think that's true? It seems really stupid to me," he said. "I mean if it's true I don't believe it, but I don't know, maybe. I mean, I haven't read the script, so unless they will show several endings that could be a twist, they're not going to waste that money. They know how expensive it is to shoot. You're not going to waste $100,000 a day to shoot something you're not going to use. It's not going to happen."
"Game of Thrones" Season 8 has not yet received a premiere date, though it is expected to air on HBO in either 2018 or 2019. For more on what we know is happening in the final season, click HERE. To see our theories for how it will end, click HERE.
