Monday marks the July 4 holiday, and several businesses and establishments will close their doors to commemorate America’s independence.

In 1870, July 4 was named a federal holiday as it signified the adoption of the Declaration of Independence back in 1776. Not only do federal workers get the day off, but many Americans have the day away from work on Monday to celebrate the holiday.

But some businesses will still be open if you need to run out last minute to stock up for your barbecue or picnic celebration.

Here’s a look at what businesses are open and closed and the hours you can expect on July 4:

The Post Office

The U.S. Postal Service will close its doors on Monday and will not be delivering mail on that day.

Other Package Services

UPS will not have pickup or delivery services on Independence Day, and their locations will also be closed for the day. However, the package delivery company will continue to offer Express Critical service on Monday.

FedEx will also close most of its locations on July 4th, with almost all of its shipping services halted for the day, including home delivery. Check with your local FedEx location to determine if it is open or has reduced hours on Monday.

Banks

Expect most banks to be closed on July 4th as they observe the holiday.

Stock Market

The New York Stock Exchange will be closed on Monday, in addition to Nasdaq.

Government Offices

Federal, state, and city government offices that are non-essential will also be closed on Independence Day.

Retail Stores

Many stores will be open on July 4, but some will have modified hours to observe the holiday. Check with your local retail location to know what hours it is operating.
