When Is ‘Amazing Race’ Coming Back? Season 31 Premiere Update
Fans of “The Amazing Race” may actually have to wait just a little bit longer for their beloved reality competition series to come back to CBS.
The series, which concluded Season 30 back in February, is expected to return for its 31st race around the world sometime in 2019. However, despite the new season already finishing filming this past summer, and prior comments from host Phil Keoghan about the show potentially coming back for another early date in the new year, there is some reason to believe the show may not actually make its return until the Spring.
According to Gold Derby, the new hour-long shows on CBS this past fall have been doing well, which means there won’t be any room for the network to slide “TAR” in anytime soon. It’s not expected that any of the new shoes are slated for early cancellation, and if they all need to finish their first seasons before the veteran series can air, it would mean that fans won’t be seeing Phil Keoghan on their screens again until the spring when the first finales begin to air.
However, it is also worth noting that CBS didn’t really cancel their newer dramas in 2017 either, with two going on to second seasons this year. The only one which was canceled early was “Wisdom of the Crowd,” which aired its final episode on Jan. 14, 2018. “Amazing Race” Season 30 premiered on Jan. 3. CBS didn’t announce that premiere plan until December 2017
Most of the shows in CBS’ lineup will likely begin airing their mid-season finales in the coming weeks, which could help free up space on the schedule for another January premiere date. However, if there are plans to not bring the show back until a later date in the spring, it wouldn’t be the first time the series took a somewhat extended hiatus. Season 28 aired its finale on May 13, 2016. However, Season 29 did not premiere until March 30, 2017, leaving it off the air for over 10 months.
Of course, until the network decides to confirm their plans, the fate of “Amazing Race” season 30 remains unknown.
