Chris McNally joins “When Calls the Heart” as Lucas in episode 2 of Season 6. Crown Media / David Dolsen

“When Calls the Heart” Season 6 continues with episode 2, titled “The Queen of Hearts,” airing on Sunday. Not only will Hearties get to see more of their favorite characters but they’ll also get introduced to a new one.

Chris McNally joins the cast of the Hallmark drama as mysterious newcomer Lucas, who comes to town as the new saloon owner. Bill (Jack Wagner) and Abigail (Lori Loughlin) are skeptical of him right away, according to the synopsis and trailer, which leads Bill to investigate him with the help of someone at the town’s new switchboard.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) teaches a student to find his confidence and Abigail asks Henry Gowen (Martin Cummins) for help with the stock market.

The episode, which was written by Elizabeth Stewart and directed by Neill Fearnley, will also see Clara (Eva Bourne) apply for a job at the saloon. In a new extended clip, which you can watch above, from the upcoming “When Calls the Heart” episode, fans will get to see not only the “Help Wanted” sign that Clara must end up seeing herself but also Elizabeth admiring it. More importantly, though, the promo scene shows the first meeting between Mrs. Thornton and Lucas.

“Morning miss, you’re going to apply I hope,” Lucas says to her.

When she plays along and asks what the qualifications are for the waitressing gig, he explains, “Intelligence, independence, personality. I’d say you’re perfect.”

“You don’t even know me,” Elizabeth counters.

“I can read people, it’s what I do,” he says back.

He quickly learns, though, when two schoolboys say hi to Mrs. Thornton, that she’s actually the school teacher and that she’s a “Mrs.” and not a “Miss.” A few seconds later, Lucas finds out even more about her when Laura (Genea Charpentier) arrives with baby Jack.

Before the clip ends, Lucas makes sure she’s aware of the saloon’s upcoming grand opening event, which she says she’ll try to make.

The whole first meeting between Lucas and Elizabeth seems very easy and flirty (at least on his part), but McNally told International Business Times that he wouldn’t call it “love at first sight or anything that serious.” He told IBT “there’s a definite interest” there, though, because she catches his eye, and he wants to know more about her.

Lucas will mainly have interactions with Abigail and Bill to start, but “then, slowly, more with Elizabeth,” McNally revealed. He won’t be able to stay away because “she’s just so wholesome and kind and beautiful and taking care of baby Jack.”

He won’t be the only one looking to spend more time with Elizabeth this season, though, as Kevin McGarry’s Mountie Nathan, who arrives in a future “WCTH” episode, will be interested in getting to know Elizabeth more, as well.

See how it all plays out when new episodes of “When Calls the Heart” Season 6 air on Hallmark Channel on Sundays at 8 p.m. EST.
