The god of thunder isn’t done just yet. While other Marvel Studios heroes have exited after their third solo film, it looks like Thor is just getting started.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi will return as writer and director for a fourth installment. “Ragnarok” reinvigorated the franchise and brought plenty of critical acclaim (not to mention $854 million at the worldwide box office), so it seems like a no-brainer to invite the filmmaker back.

The real question is about the release date. Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm anything on their slate (an announcement is expected at San Diego Comic-Con). However, Disney has earmarked release dates for future Marvel Studios films. Check out the reserved dates below:

  • May 1, 2020
  • Nov. 6, 2020
  • Feb. 12, 2021
  • May 7, 2021
  • Nov. 5, 2021
  • Feb. 18, 2022
  • May 6, 2022
  • July 29, 2022

A 2020 release is highly unlikely since work on the film still hasn’t started. Marvel films usually take at least a couple years to put together, so “Thor 4” will likely take one of the dates on the lower half of this list.

Fans should have more solid answers after San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Kevin Feige will return to Hall H on Saturday with news about the upcoming slate. Many fans are expecting a Phase 4 announcement featuring all the Marvel titles for the next several years.

While the Disney-owned company has yet to confirm anything after “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” at least a few titles are clear. “Black Widow” is already filming, and “Shang-Chi” and “The Eternals” are rumored to be casting. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is in the works, and Tom Holland has another solo “Spider-Man” movie on his contract. Sequels to “Black Panther,” “Captain Marvel” and “Doctor Strange” are also expected.
