When WWE Superstars Flooded John Cena With 'Traitor' Messages After RAW Episode
KEY POINTS
- John Cena annoyed his SmackDown wrestlers by not revealing he was moving to RAW
- The incident took place during the 2005 draft
- John Cena has won as many as 16 WWE titles
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar John Cena has revealed an instance when he was bombarded with “traitor” messages from other wrestlers in 2005.
The WWE stars were annoyed because John Cena had kept the news of him moving to Monday Night RAW in the 2005 draft a secret.
John Cena, who is set to compete in the WWE ring after nearly a year, recently spoke on Corey Graves’ After The Bell podcast where he compared the current WWE locker room to how it used to be during his initial days in the "Ruthless Aggression" era.
The former champion said he had to lie to his fellow SmackDown wrestlers to escape a mini golf session because he could not tell them the truth.
“They were all playing mini golf and I’m like, ‘I can’t make it today, I’m going to work out’. I’m in St. Louis getting drafted to RAW. When I came out, every one of them… I was watching my phone, [it] blew up. ‘Traitor!’… ‘Benedict Arnold!’ … you name it, everybody was so p----d because we genuinely had put our heart and soul into making the brand better than RAW,” John Cena further added.
John Cena, who is set to take on “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at the WrestleMania 36 this weekend, also spoke about Roman Reigns saying that he is doing an “extremely good job” at being the WWE Company’s main superstar.
In the last three decades, the WWE Superstars’ club has featured the likes of Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Rock and John Cena and now many believe that Roman Reigns looks to be John Cena’s successor in that role.
“Maybe Roman is flirting with that territory but it’s not like… Actually, Roman does an extremely good job at it, but we need something like that. We need a frontman to push forward and that’s where the era will get defined,” the 16-time WWE Champion Johna Cena further added.
Due to the coronavirus crisis, the WrestleMania took place in the U.S. for the first time without a live audience. The event, which was also a two-night affair, meaning there were two main fights, will be aired on April 5 and 6.
