Where Is Kanye West? Kim Kardashian Explains Why Husband Skipped 2017 Met Gala

“Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Kim Kardashian arrived at the 2017 Met Gala solo Monday, but why wasn't husband Kanye West at her side? The rapper reportedly wanted to take a break from the spotlight, letting his wife steal the show.

When asked about the rapper’s whereabouts, Kardashian told Vogue‘s André Leon Talley West was at home. “He’s been taking some time off and really loving that,” the 36-year-old entrepreneur said at Monday's event, according to People Magazine.

West, 39, was still recovering from his breakdown and subsequent hospitalization after Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in October. West ditched the Met Gala because he wanted to avoid “the stress and pressure of a big red carpet,” the insider revealed to People Magazine. “He just wasn’t quite there yet.”

“He’s not going because he’s not ready to start attending big events,” the source continued to the publication. “He’s doing great but wants to keep his stress levels low and just wants to take more time off”

As far as his mental health, West was stable. “Kanye has been doing okay. He’s made a lot of good progress and is in a much better place,” the source explained.

While Kardashian enjoyed her glamourous night, wearing a white off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood Couture dress complete with a corseted waist, West was at home with their children, North and Saint.

“He’s still very much enjoying his time off from public events,” the insider told People in a different article. “He’ll be staying back in L.A. with their kids. Everything is great with him and Kim and he’s supportive of her going solo.”

West shocked fans when he canceled the rest of his Saint Pablo Tour in November. His personal physician, Dr. Michael Farzam, phoned 911 when he noticed the star allegedly “acting erratically.” Farzam reportedly said was suffering from “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration.” He was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold, according to a November police report obtained by TMZ.

Kardashian's look Monday was understated, but that was the point of her ensemble. She took to Twitter and Instagram the following day to share pictures of her slip dress.

“Simplicity this year,” she captioned one picture. “Stepping up into the MET like.... I have the best glam team!” she wrote in another. Within minutes the pictures were liked hundreds of thousands of times by her 99 million IG followers.

Every year, the Met Gala, has a theme. In 2017 designers picked to honor the work of Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo.

“Rei Kawakubo is one of the most important and influential designers of the past 40 years,” Andrew Bolton, Costume Institute curator in charge, said in an October 2016 press release. “By inviting us to rethink fashion as a site of constant creation, recreation, and hybridity, she has defined the aesthetics of our time.”
