It has not even been a year since Chika garnered attention from millions with her Kanye West diss last fall. Now, the 22-year-old rapper is signed to a major label and is already getting backed by A-list celebrities like Cardi B, Erykah Badu, Sean "Diddy" Combs, and Jada Pinkett Smith. With so much happening so quickly it begs the question:

Who is Chika?

"I think, to sum it up, I’m an artistic kid who didn’t really have a place until I found music, and I got lucky. And now, here I am," the Alabama rapper, whose real name is Jane Oranika, told Uproxx. "That’s the long and short of it really."

Although Chika only recently started pursuing music seriously, it's been a long time coming. "I’ve been rapping seriously for about two years, like actually taking care of the craft and paying attention to it," she explained to Time back in April. "I started writing poetry when I was 11, and I started singing, incorporating raps and spoken word into songs since I was a kid, like middle school."

Chika may have only started two years ago, but she's already making her mark on the scene. In that time, she's debuted her song "Rickey vs. Alabama" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", landed a role in Calvin Klein's #My Calvins ad campaign and signed to Warner Records. If that's not the definition of a girl on fire, what is?

As for what's next for the up-and-coming artist? An EP is on the horizon, and fans won't have to wait long for it.

"It should be out probably by August," Chika confirmed to Uproxx. "It’s going to be summer, yeah."
