Who Is Daniel Silva? Facts About ‘Ink Master’ Star Sentenced In Corey La Barrie's Death Case

"Ink Master" star Daniel Silva had previous run-ins with the law before he was sentenced to a year of jail time for his involvement in the death of YouTuber Corey La Barrie on Tuesday.

Silva, a 27-year-old popular tattoo artist, revealed in a previous interview with Disrupt Magazine that he did not have an easy time during his high school days. Following his parents’ divorce, Silva took to the streets and got involved in the drug trade, which saw him being sent to a juvenile hall with a five-month sentence and six months of house arrest.

After his release, he was disowned and once again got involved in the drug trade to make ends meet. He was arrested a second time at the age of 19.

After serving a year in prison, Silva decided to clean up his act. With just $300 saved up, Silva purchased tattoo equipment and worked hard to improve his skills as a tattoo artist, which finally saw him earning a place on Season 10 of "Ink Master," a competition series featuring some of the country’s top tattoo artists.

The difficult technical challenges gave Silva an opportunity to exhibit his talents and he finished seventh that season.

Silva’s appearance in "Ink Master" gave him a dedicated fan following. He now boasts more than 1 million followers on Instagram. His YouTube channel, which he launched in February, has more than 230,000 subscribers.

Silva has also tattoed some famous names, such as YouTuber Brennen Taylor, mixed martial arts champion T.J. Dillashaw, Los Angeles Rams player Jalen Ramsey and influencer FaZe Adapt, among others.

However, his pride project is the Tattoo University, an online tattooing school.

"This will be the first-ever tattoo tutorial course where you can you go from knowing absolutely nothing about the tattoo industry to becoming a master at tattoos and the business structure behind it," he told Disrupt Magazine.

"This will revolutionize the way people learn how to tattoo and allow further unique talents to be recognized in the tattoo industry," he added. "Ultimately bringing respect back to the tattoo industry."

On May 10, tragedy struck when a drunk driving incident left Silva injured and killed Barrie, 25.

Silva, who was arrested after the incident, was driving at a high speed before losing control of his car and crashing into a tree in Valley Village, California, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"The driver of the McLaren exited the vehicle and attempted to leave the scene but was stopped by citizens who came to render aid," the LAPD told People. "No other vehicles were involved in the collision."

In July, Silva pleaded no contest to killing Barrie.

On Tuesday, Silva was sentenced to 364 days in jail, five years of formal probation, 250 hours of community service and a suspended prison sentence of four years, a press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.
