Who is Delphi Murders Suspect Richard Allen? Indiana Police To Announce Crucial Update
Indiana State Police is set to address the press regarding an important development in the mysterious double murder case in Delphi, at a conference Monday. The bodies of two teens, Abby Williams and Libby German were found "moved and staged" on a hiking trail in rural Delphi on Feb. 14, 2017, a day after they went missing.
There haven't been many breakthroughs in the case, except for a video recovered in 2019 from Libby's phone showing a male suspect walking on the Monon High Bridge near where the victims were last seen. An audio of the suspect taken on Libby's phone saying "guys.. down the hill" was released too.
To date, the police haven't named a suspect in the case, and more than five years since the deaths, Indiana State Police Superintendent, Doug Carter, will finally announce the name and charges against Indiana man Richard Allen at the Delphia United Methodist Church, ABC News reported.
Who is Richard Allen?
Richard Allen was arrested on Oct. 26, on suspicion of murdering the two girls from Carroll County.
The arrest came a week after investigators executed a search warrant on his house, seized his car, and dug through a firepit in the backyard, sources told Fox59. The man is suspected to have moved the bodies across a half-mile distance from beneath the bridge.
Richard is married to Kathy Allen, and they share a daughter. In 2018, Kathy posted a photo of their daughter on the Monon Bridge, Conan Daily reported. Richard obtained his license as a pharmacy tech the same year.
In December 2021, Richard and Kathy were photographed at a Delphi bar with a sketch of the girls' suspected murderer, based on witness accounts, visible on the wall in the background. The picture emerged hours after Fox59 accessed a state-issued photo of him after he was booked into jail in connection with the murders.
What happened to Abby Williams and Libby German?
The police have withheld information regarding the condition in which the victims' bodies were found. The circumstances surrounding the deaths haven't been made public, however, according to an FBI search warrant, "a large amount of blood was lost by the victims at the crime scene."
The killer took a souvenir from the victims but the autopsies showed no signs of "struggle or fight." Police have also remained tight-lipped about the staging of the bodies. Investigators believe the suspect might have documented the crime scene to "memorialize" it.
Other suspects linked to the unsolved murder
Kegan Kline, James Chadwell II, Thomas Bruce, Charles Eldridge, John Miller, and Daniel Nations have all been investigated in the case.
