Who Is Konrad Reuland? Former Ravens, Jets Tight End Dies At 29 From Brain Aneurysm
Football player Konrad Reuland passed away on Monday at the age of 29. Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said the tight end suffered a brain aneurysm last month and underwent surgery.
“Just want to offer condolences to his family. We love Konrad Reuland,” Harbaugh said as he opened the post-game press interaction. “Every single guy in that locker room loves him who knows him.”
The head coach also recited a short psalm at the podium on his behalf.
A Springfield, Ohio, native, Reuland started playing football only in his sophomore year of high school. The 6-foot-5-inch tight end weighed 254 pounds, and started his collegiate career at Notre Dame in 2006-07 before transferring to Stanford University.
Reuland was signed in July 2011 by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent, and went on to be part of four franchises during his NFL career. Following his stint with the 49ers, Reuland joined the New York Jets the next year and played in all 16 games with three starts. He was with the Jets well into the 2013 season before suffering a knee injury that ended his season.
Reuland had two brief stints with the Colts in 2014 and this past offseason. He played in three preseason games with the team this year, with one catch for 10 yards in the team’s third preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to the Colts’ official website.
The Baltimore Ravens signed Reuland to their practice squad in November 2014 and he spent the next year shuffling between the active roster and the practice squad. He was cut loose by the Ravens in May this year.
Reuland caught 12 passes in his career for 90 yards.
