Who Is Steve Stanulis? Bodyguard Kanye West Supposedly Fired For Talking To Kim Kardashian Before Met Gala Speaks Out
Steve Stanulis, the bodyguard Kanye West apparently fired for talking to Kim Kardashian before the 2016 Met Gala on Monday, spoke out during an exclusive interview with the U.K.’s Daily Mail Thursday. Stanulis, who has worked for A-list stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, said he wasn’t sure what he did wrong.
At the last minute, West and wife Kardashian reportedly wanted to take a Lamborghini to the New York City fashion event. It was 6 p.m., about the time they were supposed to leave, so Stanulis went to find out what was going on since he was their driver.
“I just wanted to make sure we were ready when they were ready," Stanulis, a former Chippendales dancer, explained. "I went up to the floor to the Presidential Suite [at the Waldorf]. I was walking, and the door was open. And I happened to see Kim. I thought I'd ask her or the other security or assistant if there was a change of plan. As I was walking up to Kim and the room, Kanye walked by. He came from around the corner and saw me walking toward the room.”
The rapper ignored Stanulis. Minutes later, someone told him Kardashian and West left for the Met Gala without him.
Stanulis, a Staten Island cop, was reportedly fired for hitting on Kardashian, 34, but he denied flirting with the E! reality star. “I had no intention on hitting on Kim Kardashian. I am happily married. I got enough problems in the world and three young kids, so that was not my intent,” he told the Daily Mail.
As for West, Stanulis isn’t much of a fan. He called the rapper "the most self-absorbed person" he had ever met and said West “needs to chill the f--- out.”
In a different report, sources told TMZ West did not fire Stanulis and does not have a problem with bodyguards talking to his wife. Everything "went very smoothly,” an insider said, adding Stanulis was only hired as a temporary bodyguard.
