Why ‘Bachelor In Paradise’ Star Daniel Maguire Can’t Be The Next Bachelor
“Bachelor in Paradise” returnee Daniel Maguire has to come to terms with the fact that he’s likely not going to be ABC’s new Bachelor. Ahead of the Season 4 premiere of the spinoff dating series Monday, the model and personal trainer shared his thoughts on the upcoming installment and “The Bachelor” franchise.
After failing to win “Bachelorette” JoJo Fletcher’s heart in Season 12, and with one full season of “BIP” under his belt, you’d think Daniel would at least be considered to be the next Bachelor, but he says fans shouldn’t count on it.
“If a Bachelor opportunity presented itself what guy is going to say no to having the possibility to date 25 girls and choosing one of them? I think that’d be awesome!” Daniel told International Business Times.
“I would 100 percent want to be The Bachelor. That being said, I don’t think they’d ever want me because they probably think I’m too wild and too liberal and too honest, too much of a straight shooter.”
With five show titles on his resume, Daniel says he’s become pegged by reality producers as “cocky” and “egotistical” – “BIP” fans know him best as “The Canadian” – but Daniel there’s more to him than what makes it to air.
“They show one side of me,” the 32-year-old told IBT. “All the other conversations that I have that are very honest, open, serious – they don’t show all that other stuff.”
Off-camera, Daniel prides himself on being well-traveled and helping care for his quadriplegic father. He’s also someone who says he likes to live in the moment after suffering from a motorcycle accident in 2013. As for intellect, he’s got that too. Beyond his model-good looks and witty one-liners, he has a psychology degree, though viewers don’t have to worry about him leaving TV for a normal 9-5 anytime soon.
“No, no. no. I’ve never wanted to pursue the normal life. I could never see myself in an office job,” Daniel said. “I get bored really easy. One thing I always say, and I know its hard to live like this because you still have to make your money and still be healthy and be sane, but I’ve always said, if you died tomorrow, would you have been happy with the life you’ve lived?”
“I’ve done basically almost everything I’ve wanted to do bucket list wise. I just want to keep living life to its fullest,” he continued.
Living life to the fullest means also considering a potential reality show with his “Bachelor in Paradise” co-star and off-screen friend Vinny Ventiera. After co-starring together on the Season 2 premiere of Patti Stanger’s “Million Dollar Matchmaker” on WE TV earlier this month, Daniel says he wouldn’t be opposed to a show with his fellow “Bachelorette” alum.
“Maybe down the road I could definitely see and want a TV show,” Daniel said before going on to state his potential, future series would be better than “Bachelor” stars Haley and Emily Ferguson’s Freeform reality program “The Twins: Happily Ever After?”
“If the twins can have a TV show, sure as hell we could have one! At least it would been entertaining,” he quipped.
While Daniel accepts he likely won’t be picked to be next season’s Bachelor, he says he isn’t exactly thrilled with the men the show decides on. “They can choose another guy but it’s just going to be another cookie cutter,” he complained. “It’s the same old fake [expletive] and it’s because they’re not confident in who they really are because they are so worried about what people are going to think about them.”
For now, Daniel will be starring on the next “Bachelor in Paradise” installment, which he most certainly will be tuning in for.
“To be honest, I find it to be kind of boring,” Daniel admitted when asked if he watched the latest “Bachelorette” season. “[But] when a show is on that I’m in, I’m going to watch it because I’m definitely going to be entertainment when I’m on.”
“Bachelor in Paradise” Season 4 kicks off on ABC Monday at 8 p.m. EDT. Before the premiere, meet the cast of singles competing for love.
