Why 'The Bachelor' Viewers Are Threatening To Boycott Show After Matt James Finale
Monday night marked the official end of Matt James’ season of ABC’s “The Bachelor,” and many viewers have expressed their opinions of how Season 25 was handled, which has caused some to want to boycott the show.
The 2021 installment was a whirlwind of rumors, scandals, and side-taking. Matt's winner, Rachael Kirkconnell, was the star of the season after the media uncovered old photos of her attending a racially-insensitive Antebellum party, which she addressed and took ownership of as the season aired.
It was announced on “After the Final Rose” on Monday that Matt decided to end the relationship due to not being able to look past the racism controversy surrounding Rachael. This has led to aggravation from some viewers.
Since the finale, a noticeable amount of fans have commented on “The Bachelor” franchise’s social media pages explaining that they’re done watching the show after this season due to numerous reasons, including “bullying,” the series “being all about race,” the program hosting a Bachelor who was seemingly not ready for marriage, as well as host Chris Harrison not being a part of the reunion show.
As previously reported, Harrison temporarily exited the show in February after defending Rachael's past social media posts in an interview with the series first Black "Bachelorette" star, Rachel Lindsay.
This was the most boring season ever! Like Wendy Williams said "Matt is a bore" he just wanted fame on tv. He never planned on marrying anyone. I am done with the show! Each season y'all try so hard to beat the last season but it just makes it stupid and boring.

Yeah, after this season, I'm done watching. You guys turned this season into a Shi$ show of bullying #rachelkirkconnell and utter stupidity. And it's a shame because I was looking forward to Bachelor in Paradise. Oh well. #DONE @BacheloretteABC @BachelorABC https://t.co/VlijXuEevY

“That’s it...no more Bachelorette series for me. The Bachelor showed me how unfamiliar people are knowing what Love really means. I will spend my viewing hours on something else worth watching,” one user commented on the franchise’s Facebook page.
"I just want to say, 'thank you' for making this the easiest decision ever....I will definitely never watch the Bachelor or the Bachelorette again. I have one word...RIDICULOUS!" wrote another fan.
“Listen to the people….your rating are going to suck if you don’t bring Chris back. I’m sure they sucked right after he didn’t propose,” one viewer stated.
Others were pleased with how the finale played out, explaining that these conversations needed to be had, and said that interim host Emmanuel Acho did a great job.
"Y’all realize Chris Harrison could’ve never had this conversation or tried to. After the [explicit] season Matt was given - he deserved to be able to have this open conversation about the aftermath of Rachael's actions and just the life in general for POC. Take a look in the mirror if you’re angry about this. Or boycotting a franchise for finally putting in the work," one Facebook user stated.
@EmmanuelAcho thank you for opening my eyes on this issue- it really hit home - great job hosting it was what we all needed @thebachelor

While "The Bachelor" franchise may be facing some backlash, the network has plans to move forward with not one, but two "The Bachelorette" installments this year. Two of Matt's former contestants, Michelle Young and Katie Thurston, will each star on their own season of the dating show. As seen below, some fans are excited about the upcoming installments.
