Why Is Catherine Deneuve In The Hospital? Star's Fate In New Movie Unknown
The 76-year-old French film star, Catherine Deneuve, suffered from a mild stroke three weeks ago, according to Variety. The film star is reportedly still in a Paris hospital.
Before the stroke, Deneuve was filming a new movie called “De Son Vivant” ("In her/his Lifetime”), which has now been halted.
Coincidentally, Deneuve was filming a scene for the movie in a hospital near Paris when she had the stroke.
“She was taken to Salpetriere hospital, which specializes in treating strokes, and then moved to the private Hospital Foundation Adolphe de Rothschild in northern Paris,” the outlet reported.
“De Son Vivant” will “resume shooting early next year when Deneuve will be out of the hospital; but the actress could also be replaced,” someone said to Variety who is close to the production.
In a statement obtained by the outlet, Deneuve’s publicist said that she is “feeling fine” and but getting some “much-needed rest.”
Deneuve was born on Oct. 22, 1943. CBS reports that “Deneuve is arguably the most famous French actress of all time, having starred in more than 100 films.”
She gained her fame in the 60s, starring in classics like Luis Bunuel’s “Belle de Jour,” Roman Polanski’s “Repulsion” and Jacques Demy’s “The Umbrella of Cherbourg.” She most recently starred in “The Truth” with Juliette Binoche.
On Jan. 9, 2018, Deneuve found herself in the middle of a controversy when she signed an open letter denouncing the #MeToo movement. It was also signed by 100 other female French writers, performers and academics, Rolling Stone reported.
“Rape is a crime,” the letter that was published in a French newspaper said. “But flirting insistently or clumsily isn’t a crime, and chivalry is not a machismo aggression.”
The women claimed the #MeToo movement created “an environment to men,” “who are sanctioned in their work, pushed to resign, etc., when their only wrongdoing was to touch a knee, try to steal a kiss, speak about intimate things during a professional dinner or send messages that are sexually loaded to a woman that who wasn’t attracted to them,” the letter added.
