Why 'Game Of Thrones' Season 8 Will Be 'Greatest Thing Ever Aired'
Fans waiting for the newest season of "Game of Thrones" will continue waiting until at least 2019, but the long time frame before the series' final season aired may be worth the wait.
Jason Momoa, who portrayed Khal Drogo back on the HBO show's first season, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his recent time in Belfast, where he hung out on set with his former co-stars, and admitted that he believes the new season will be the best thing to ever air on television.
"Just knowing how amazing this season is going to be..." He said. "It's going to be the greatest thing that's ever aired on TV. It's going to be unbelievable. It's going to f—up a lot of people. And it was a bummer because I'm a huge fan and I didn't want to know what's going on. I was like, 'Damn, I didn't want to know that!'"
However, fans who were hopeful that his time on set was a hint that Drogo would somehow be resurrected from the dead for the new season will be disappointed, as Momoa admitted he wasn't there for filming, and had only been there to stop by and say hello to his old friends.
"I just showed up to see [producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss] and I just happened to see people on set," he said. "I haven't been over there in a long time. You just want to see your friends and you end up make headlines going, 'Drogo's back!' And I'm like, 'He's dead! He can't come back, it wouldn't work.'"
Fans have been hopeful Drogo would be back on the show for years, because of the romance he and Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) shared at the end of Season one. She wound up killing her husband after black magic to save him not only killed their son, but also left him in a vegetative state.
However, there is another reason a Drogo reappearance wouldn't work for the show. Though Dany had previously moved on with Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman), she has since moved on in an even bigger way with Jon Snow (Kit Harington). However, though the two did sleep together in the Season 7 finale, they are both set to eventually learn that they are actually related.
"Game of Thrones" is expected to return to HBO in 2019.
