Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s marriage faces more controversy than Kate Middleton and Prince William’s marriage for a reason.

One netizen asked on Quora why Markle’s marriage faces more controversy compared to Middleton’s. The question received different responses from royal fans.

According to one user, there was more curiosity about Markle in the U.S. while the U.K. tabloid stirred the controversy. The user believed that those who gave the relationship any thought were more likely connected to Prince Harry and they were those who wanted to see him happy following Princess Diana’s death.

Meanwhile, others believe that the controversy was due to her American background and how the U.S. makes a big deal out of Markle. “I feel like there was more controversy about it in the USA than in the UK,” Elizabeth Anne Nield, a self-confessed royal-obsessed, wrote. Paul McElroy, an Irish electrician and automation engineer, also voiced the same opinion.

“Because american white supremacists (yes, I mean you, Regualr Joe, not necessarily the KKK) were annoyed that someone else’s royalty would marry into a mixed-race family. Honestly, this says more about the americans than it does about the British,” he wrote.

Nield also said that another factor that stirred the controversies involving the Duchess of Sussex was her dysfunctional family. Markle’s father and paternal half-siblings have been saying a lot of things against her. Selene Daws agreed that Markle’s family contributed to the controversies surrounding her.

“I think the controversy centred on Meghan’s father and half-siblings. Their behaviour was extraordinary and they look like a freakshow -- especially at the side of Meghan's mother who behaved impeccably,” she commented.

Contrary to Markle’s family, Middleton is very close to her parents and siblings. The Duchess of Cambridge’s parents and siblings never said something bad about her after she married the royal family.

Last year, Carole agreed to do interviews to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their family business, Party Pieces. According to Richard Kay, Carole has been mum for 15 years, so when she agreed to make an interview about their business, it fueled the alleged row between Middleton and Markle who were rumored to be feuding at the time.

The Queen is also reportedly “very fond” of Middleton for the same reason. Queen Elizabeth II loves Middleton’s middle-class values and the fact that she is very close to her family. She also appreciates how Middleton never tried to gain extra attention for herself.
