Mindy Kaling is a writer, producer, and actress, among many other things, who has blazed a trail for herself in Hollywood. Now, after more than 15 years in the industry, the Indian-American beauty spills about her new role, motherhood.

Kaling shared the "gruesome" and surprising details surrounding motherhood in an interview with the New York Times. During her conversation with the publication, which was published on June 7, the 38-year-old discussed how being a parent shocked her, stating, "I’m surprised at how much I enjoy being a mom."

"I did not think I had a big maternal instinct," Kaling further explained. "I’m very impatient, and having a baby requires an amount of patience that I was worried about."

Kaling, who gave birth to her daughter in December 2017, revealed that while she was worried about having patience, it's something that she naturally acquired.

"They don’t tell you that the thing will look so much like you, and do things that are so sweet and adorable, that you’ll naturally not have the same impatience that you would have with a stranger or someone who works for you."

While Kaling has been enjoying time with her 1-year-old daughter Katherine, she's not sure that any details about motherhood will crossover into her work. This would be a change for the comedian who often times incorporates bits of life into the characters she writes. Kaling explained that while she does find some aspects of becoming a mother funny, she doesn't know if she would ever include it in her writing.

"The three months after giving birth, especially since I did it by myself, were very funny, and at times very gruesome. But I don’t know that I would ever write about it."

Another thing the "Late Night" actress won't write or publicly talk about, her daughter's father -- at least, not for now. When asked about her decision to keep the paternity unknown to the public her response showed just how much maternal instinct Kaling has.

"My feeling is that until I speak to my daughter about that, I'm not going to talk to anyone else about it," she said.
