Why Prince Charles Admitted Camilla Affair On TV While Married To Diana
Why did Prince Charles admit his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles on national TV while he was still married to Princess Diana?
One user took to Quora to find possible answers to the question. The online user was wondering what the Prince of Wales was trying to accomplish by doing so.
According to Lynn Lance, the Prince of Wales wanted revenge because Princess Diana did an interview with Martin Bashir. For her, the future king was trying to explain why it was perfectly acceptable to cheat on one’s wife. However, Princess Diana upstaged him yet again, when the Princess of Wales stepped out that evening wearing her black revenge dress.
“Diana had already written her tell-all book with Andrew Morton. Denying it, especially AFTER Tampon-gate was publicized a year earlier would have been ridiculous,” Melissa Marshall wrote.
“That he was being honest and owning up and taking responsibility for his actions, plus he could hardly deny it lol,” Andrew Sutcliffe added.
Cory Raisa, who did an extensive, non-tabloid research on Princess Diana, said that Prince Charles admitted his affair because he knew that his lies had been exposed already. The heir apparent knew that he would only look even worse if he denied his relationship with Camilla.
“Diana had already spilled the beans on everything with her ‘airing the Royal dirty laundry’ interviews,” Eileen Wood added. “At that point, there was no reason for Charles NOT to admit it was true. So, he didn’t.”
Princess Diana said in her infamous Panorama interview that her relationship with Prince Charles didn’t work because “there were three of us in this marriage, so it’s a bit crowded.” Many took her statement as a hint that the Prince of Wales was having an affair with the Duchess of Cornwall.
Although Princess Diana asked for a trial separation, the People’s Princess reportedly had no plans to divorce Prince Charles. Princess Diana admitted in one of her interviews that she had divorced parents and that fueled her to try even harder and make her own marriage work because she didn’t want to fall back into a pattern that she saw in her own family.
According to Robert Lacey, Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth II put more blame on their son for Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce. He added that Prince Charles was already emotionally committed to another woman, Camilla, before he married Princess Diana.
