Prince Harry may feel fulfilled with his personal life these days since he’s a happily married man who is set to be a first-time father at any moment, but prior to meeting Meghan Markle, the Duke of Sussex reportedly started feeling trapped by his life in Kensington Palace.

According to royal biographer Duncan Larcombe, as his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton started spending more time raising their kids and he was unable to do the kinds of things less famous people would do at the end of a long day, Prince Harry would feel lonely and like he was imprisoned by the life he led.

“Harry is very much a people person and hates spending time in his own company. But with young prince and princesses to look after, more and more of William and Kate’s time was dominated by family life,” Larcombe wrote in his book “Prince Harry: The Inside Story.”

“It was not as though he could just pop out for a beer after work like a normal person,” he added. “In many ways, he was becoming a prisoner in his own home and would spend hours watching TV alone.”

During this time, where he was single following a split from Cressida Bonas in 2014, his time working with Will and Kate only highlighted the fact that he might be missing out on something to Harry.

“The missing link in Harry’s life was on display nearly every time he left his cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace,” Larcombe wrote. “With their young children needing space, William and Kate had moved to a much larger apartment at KP, leaving Harry to live the bachelor life alone.”

“When the Range Rovers dropped the three of them back at the palace, Harry would return to an empty home,” he added. “Even if he was buzzing from performing in front of the adoring crowds, this development in his personal circumstances simply underlined the void in his life.”

The feeling reportedly consumed Harry during the years he was single until he eventually went on to meet Markle in 2016. Since then, the couple became engaged, got married, announced they were expecting their first child together and have since moved off the grounds of Kensington Palace completely, taking of residence at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
