Why Prince William, Prince Harry Regret Last Phone Call With Princess Diana
Prince William and Prince Harry have some regrets on their last phone call with Princess Diana.
The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex were very close to their late mom, the Princess of Wales. In fact, Prince William and Prince Harry have nothing but fond memories of her. However, it wasn’t all fun because they confessed that they have some regrets about the last time they talked to her.
For Princess Diana’s 20th death anniversary in 20117, the royal princes shared in the documentary “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy” how they felt about their last conversation with their mother. According to Prince William, they were vacationing in Scotland when Princess Diana called.
Princess Diana was in a summer getaway with her boyfriend Dodi Fayed at the time while the two boys were playing with their cousins, so they were in a rush to end the call and resume their playtime. The two admitted that had they known it would be the last time they would hear her voice, they would have spoken with her longer.
The Duke of Cambridge confessed that he regretted how he ended his call with Princess Diana. “But that phone call sticks in my mind quite heavily,” Prince William added.
Prince Harry also felt the same and said that it was “incredibly hard.” “ I’ll have to sort of deal with that for the rest of my life,” the Duke of Sussex admitted.
“How differently that conversation could have panned out if I’d had even the slightest inkling her life was going to be taken that night,” he added.
It took years for Prince Harry to forgive himself for the incident. Prince Harry grew up doing a lot of stuff that was not cool for a royal or for anybody. According to royal correspondent Chris Connelly, it was because he was in so much pain after Princess Diana’s death.
A number of people around him were already worried about how upset he was for losing his mother. They just advised young Harry to stop thinking about his mom, but Connelly didn’t think of it as a great move. According to him, it was “unwell-meaning to say to a child” and he added that the pain would still manifest in other ways.
