Why Princess Diana Was ‘Content’ With Her Life Before She Died
Princess Diana was reportedly quite content with her life months before she died.
When she was still alive, the Princess of Wales developed a close friendship with famed designer Gianni Versace. In 1991, the mom of two was even photographed on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar while wearing a beautiful ice-blue Atelier Versace gown.
Years later, she also posed for a series of photographs with Mario Testino. In the snaps, Princess Diana wore another Versace creation, and the pictures were published by Vanity Fair on July 1, 1997. Princess Diana passed away on Aug. 31 of the same year.
In the interview with Vanity Fair, Versace talked about Princess Diana and said that there was a kind of serenity while the former royal was posing for photographs in his creation.
“I had a fitting with her last week for new suits and clothing for spring, and she is so serene. It is a moment in her life, I think, when she’s found herself – the way she wants to live,” Versace said.
During the same interview with Vanity Fair, Princess Diana also opened up to Cathy Horyn.
“Nothing gives me more pleasure now than being able to love and help those in our society who are vulnerable. If I can contribute a little something, then I am more than content,” she said.
Unfortunately for the Princess of Wales, her plans became short-lived. Just seven weeks after her interview was released, Princess Diana was pronounced dead following a fatal car crash in Paris.
Versace, on the other hand, died just two weeks after the interview. On July 15, 1997, he was shot by serial killer Andrew Cunanan on the steps of his home on Miami Beach. Versace was just 50 years old when he was shot dead.
Following his demise, Princess Diana reunited with her good friend, Elton John, to attend the funeral. Weeks later, John also mourned the death of Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom.
