Queen Elizabeth didn’t introduce her children, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, to the world immediately after giving birth.

But several years later, Princess Diana started a tradition of stepping out of the hospital with her newborn children so that the entire world could catch a glimpse of them.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans wondered if photos of Her Majesty with her babies were ever released after she gave birth. Sheena Brown said that there was probably none because the Queen didn’t give birth to her children at a hospital. Rather, she gave birth at home.

Sallie Smythe, an avid reader of royal biographies, said that the hospital steps photo and sighting is a relatively new thing. Back in the day, the Queen waited for a couple of weeks until she has recovered before she introduced her children to the world.

“Some were seen for the first time in their christening photos. There was none of the sense of urgency that exists today,” she said.

Chris Smith, a retired history school teacher, said that only Prince Edward’s birth photos were leaked to the public but it wasn’t the Queen’s intention to share them to the world.

“The only reason there are pictures of Edward as a newborn is that Philip took some pictures and then sent them out to be developed. Someone at the developers sold them to a tabloid who published them but also very quickly removed them when there were complaints about them as they were private photos,” he said.

Meghan Markle, who gave birth to her son on May 6, didn’t also show Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor to the world just hours after he was born. Rather, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex waited for two days.

But Kate Middleton followed in Princess Diana footsteps by introducing all three of her children to the public outside the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital.
