  • “The Republic of Sarah” was canceled after one season at The CW
  • The series failed to find much of an audience upon its debut
  • The Stella Baker starrer also didn’t get critical love on Rotten Tomatoes

“The Republic of Sarah” won’t be getting a chance at a sophomore run after The CW decided to axe the show following its debut season.

Apparently, the Stella Baker starrer struggled to find much of an audience upon its debut, with Variety reporting that it only averaged around 325,000 Live+Same Day viewers.

The drama premiered as part of The CW’s summer lineup, but it turned out to be among the lesser watched shows. For this reason, “The Republic of Sarah” will be the only original scripted series from the 2020-2021 roster to not return with a second season, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Other rookie shows that launched with the series — “Kung Fu,” “Superman & Lois” and “Walker” — have been renewed by the network.

“The Republic of Sarah” did manage to garner an 89% audience score on the review-aggregation website for film and television Rotten Tomatoes, but it still failed to get critical love as it only scored a 43% critic approval.

Series creator Jeffrey Paul King took to Instagram Thursday to announce the cancellation of the show to fans.

“I’m sad to say the news is not good. ‘The Republic of Sarah’ will come to an end on Monday with what will now be our series finale,” King wrote in his caption to a photo of the cast.

“Thank you so much to everyone who watched and who let our little show into their lives. It means the world to us. Please tune in on Monday and help us say goodbye to Greylock,” he added.

The show followed a high school teacher named Sarah Cooper (Baker) in her attempt to save the town of Greylock, New Hampshire, from the impending destruction that a mining company planned to carry out after spotting a massive vein of valuable mineral underneath the location.

Aside from Baker, who is the daughter of actor Simon Baker, the series also starred Luke Mitchell, Hope Lauren, Nia Holloway, Ian Duff, Forrest Goodluck, Landry Bender, Izabella Alvarez and Megan Follows.

CBS originally planned and worked on the pilot order for the drama series, but the network eventually decided to drop it. The CW then picked it up and ordered a new pilot with a new cast in May 2020, according to Variety.
