Why Same-Sex Marriage Poses Greater Threat to Society Than You Think
With New York at the center of same-sex marriage debate, you may want to cool down and consider whether the new social norm proposed here is merely an issue of personal choice.
Why not? Even aside from religious or moral view on homosexuality, there are numerous factors that voice against giving full rights to same-sex couples.
Let's admit the reality here. While homosexual activists attempt to portray their lifestyle as normal and healthy, and insist that homosexual relationships deserve equal rights as heterosexual ones, the real world may suggest a quite opposite picture.
A road to polygamy?
A report by the Traditional Values suggested that homosexual activists who are promoting the legalization of same-sex marriage have a goal beyond legalizing homosexual marriages. Their goal is to completely redefine and alter the concept of marriage and family entirely.
Even if homosexual marriages are legalized, homosexuals would continue to engage in promiscuous sexual activities with other men. Andrew Sullivan, a homosexual and a senior editor at The New Republic, has written in his book that once same-sex marriages are legalized, straight society will have to develop a greater understanding of the need for extramarital outlets between two men than between a man and a woman.
Referring to traditional marriage as a stifling model of heterosexual normality, Sullivan wrote, The truth is, homosexuals are not entirely normal; and to flatten their varied and complicated lives into a single, moralistic model is to miss what is essential and exhilarating about their otherness. If his opinion is understood and accepted, homosexuals who are not normal should not be banned from engaging in sex with multiple partners.
Homosexual activist Michelangelo Signorile referred to homosexuality as all about pushing the limits of sexual activities as a way of reordering our culture and even our view of reality.
The effort to legalize same-sex marriages will break the boundary of union with one partner. In 1972, the National Coalition of Gay Organizations issued its 1972 Gay Rights Platform, which listed every major homosexual goal, which has been followed consistently since 1972. One of the major goals is to repeal of all legislative provisions that restrict the sex or number of persons entering into a marriage unit; and the extension of legal benefits to all who cohabit regardless of sex or numbers.
Obviously, the objective here is to legalize marriage among any number of individuals or sexual combinations.
Health Risk
Beyond the basic human rights claimed by homosexuals to love freely, the reality is that gay couples are in the highest risk group for most serious diseases. Homosexual sex acts are not only unsafe for the individuals involved but also for the entire culture. Just as much as we discourage smoking and drinking, an unhealthy lifestyle for all people should not be endorsed.
Especially homosexual men are reportedly engage in a number of activities that spread diseases and the AIDS virus on a regular basis. In The Gay Report, by Jay and Young, homosexual researchers surveyed the sex habits of homosexuals, Traditional Values reported.
The result shows that:
99% had engaged in oral sex
91% had engaged in anal intercourse
83% engaged in rimming (mouth to anus contact)
22% had fisted their sex partners
23% admitted to golden showers (urinating on a sex partner)
76% admitted to group or public sex
4% admitted ingesting feces
These behaviors are the seedbed for a whole variety of serious intestinal parasites, viruses, and bacteria known collectively as Gay Bowel Syndrome.
Dr. Stephen E. Goldstone, the medical director of Gay Health.com says that 68% of HIV-positive and 45% of HIV-negative homosexual men have abnormal or precancerous anal cells, noted Traditional Values.
Medical experts and scientists believe that the increased number of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) cases is the result of an increase in risky sexual practices by a growing number of gay men. One in five gay men were found to have HIV, according to a study released by the CDC in 2010.
According to John R. Diggs Jr., a practicing Internist and medical practitioner, Common sexual practices among gay men lead to numerous STDs and physical injuries, some of which are virtually unknown in the heterosexual population. Lesbians are also at higher risk for STDs. In addition to diseases that may be transmitted during lesbian sex, a study at an Australian STD clinic found that lesbians were three to four times more likely than heterosexual women to have sex with men who were high-risk for HIV.
The younger, the riskier
A Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health study of three-hundred-sixty-one young men who have sex with men (MSM) aged fifteen to twenty-two found that around 40% of participants reported having had anal-insertive sex, and around 30%said they had had anal-receptive sex, the Family Research Council (FRC) reported. 37% said they had not used a condom for anal sex during their last same-sex encounter. 21% of the respondents reported using drugs or alcohol during their last same-sex encounter. Furthermore, a five-year CDC study of 3,492 homosexual males aged fifteen to twenty-two found that one-quarter had unprotected sex with both men and women. Another CDC study of 1,942 homosexual and bisexual men with HIV found that 19% had at least one episode of unprotected anal sex--the riskiest sexual behavior--in 1998 and 1997, a 50% increase from the previous two years, according to the FRC report.
What else?
In addition to a higher exposure to numerous diseases, these empirical data point to the devastating side effect of a total freedom in marriage:
- Promiscuity among Homosexual Couples
- Higher violence in homosexual relationships
- Gay Bowel Syndrome
- Anal Cancer
- High incidence of mental health problems
- Greater risk for suicide
- Shortened life span
Diggs referred to the ideal of sexual activity being limited to marriage defined as male-female as a fence erected in all civilizations around the globe.
Diggs said, Throughout history, many people have climbed over the fence, engaging in premarital, extramarital and homosexual sex. Still, the fence stands; the limits are visible to all. Climbing over the fence, metaphorically, has always been recognized as a breach of those limits, even by the breachers themselves. No civilization can retain its vitality for multiple generations after removing the fence.
Will you want to climb over the fence? Do you think it's better to at least remove it, in a liberal state such as New York? Regardless of religious perspectives, the passage of same-sex marriage bill may affect your society - in a much more real way than you think.
