They’ve been one of the most consistently strong teams through season 29 of “The Amazing Race,” but will Tara Carr and Joey Covino, aka #TeamMomandDad, pull ahead in the final round and win their most important leg of all?

Though they are by far the strongest team going into the finale, their past successes do not mean a guaranteed win is in store for Tara and Joey. Though there are definitely more positive attributes to their partnership that make it seem like they are by far the team to beat, they also have had a few rough moments during the race which have shown their vulnerabilities. If those surface once more in the final leg, both Brooke and Scott and London and Logan will have a chance at beating them in the end.

Pros:

They Have A Great Partnership Overall:

Though they’ve had a few moments where they’ve disagreed and argued, the partnership between Tara and Joey is one of the strongest and most genuine ones. The two have been genuine “Pahtners” through and through, supporting one another when it was needed, and focusing on working together to get things done. Their support is also unwavering, with Joey blaming the heat in Hanoi and sweat destroying their Detour clue for a mistake Tara openly admitted making in reading it in the first place. He refused to let her beat herself up for their last place finish in what was a non-elimination leg.

They Have the Best Track Record:

Of the three teams in the finale, they have by far the best track record when it comes to placement in previous legs. After starting off in the middle of the pack the first two legs, they mostly dominated the competition from that point on, winning 1st place three times, second once, and third four times. Their only leg where they didn’t finish in the top three was the one in Hanoi.

They’ve Come Back From The Bottom Before:

Their performance following the leg in Hanoi has shown that they are also capable of coming back from being on the bottom as well. They were on the brink of elimination there, and also had to complete a Speed Bump that other teams didn’t have to worry about when they arrived in Ninh Binh. Despite odds seeming stacked against them, Tara and Joey persevered. Though they probably wouldn’t have been eliminated in that leg anyway since Becca and Floyd were knocked out after he suffered from extreme heat exhaustion, they still managed to place third, ahead of London and Logan. The fact that they came back from the bottom before bodes well for them in the final leg, because they shouldn’t be counted out.

Cons:

When Stressed Out, They Can Fall Apart:

Despite their great partnership with each other, stress can occasionally expose some weaknesses in their team as a whole. In Dar es Salaam, when faced with Detours that seemed to be giving them trouble, they switched between them twice, and also battled one another about that decision. They also don’t always react well when they perceive that they may be in last. In Hanoi, before their mistake, Tara and Joey blamed Brooke and Scott for their placement because they didn’t tell them all the spots had been taken up in the first detour. When Tara struggled in Seoul with the video game Roadblock, they also seemed as though they felt that the teen she played against was being harder on her than the other players were, implying that when things go wrong, they can sometimes have a hard time seeing where they may play a role in it. This is a big weakness to have, and it could be something that plays into things again when they are in the final leg, because there’s no leg more stressful than the one where one team actually wins $1 million in the end.

They’ve Fallen Behind The Last Few Legs:

Though they did come back from their last place finish in Hanoi, the last few legs have been the weakest Tara and Joey have seemed all race. If they’ve run out of steam, then there isn’t going to be much that can keep them ahead of the others in the final leg, at least, not long enough for them to guarantee the final win.

They’re Going Into The Leg In Last Place:

Though being first going into a final leg is never a guarantee of a win (Seasons 2,3, 7, 10, 16, 17, 21 and 25 all saw teams go from last to first in the final leg), starting off in the top position is always an enviable place. At the very least, starting the leg off in second can feel like a nice cushion. Starting in last however isn’t a place a team wants to be in, because even if it’s only by minutes that they’re behind the others, even one minute can make all the difference on the race. They will have to work just a little bit harder to take the number one spot where it counts the most.
